My name is Jada Marie Thomas, aspiring artist and creator of jada marie creations.
From my earliest childhood moments, I have known no other path than that of an artist. I believe it to be a calling ingrained within me, a whisper passed down through generations, finding its origins in the stories and wisdom shared by my mother. She told me, “Choose a career where you are welcome, and you love what you do.” I have lived by that daily for as long as I can remember. I made it my mission to always create.
I enjoy various mediums including painting, graphic design, and ceramics. However, I primarily work in photography. I love photography because it allows me to showcase how I view myself and the world around me exactly how I want.
My most recent works explore the themes of identity and self-discovery whether it be through portraits and still life. These projects serve as a reflection of my current life experiences as a student, daughter, older sister, and black woman. I strive to create art that is relatable. I want my audience to see themselves in me through my work and acknowledge within themselves that they are not alone in whatever they are going through. I believe that by acknowledging and embracing our vulnerabilities, we can find strength, resilience, and a greater sense of compassion for ourselves and others.
When starting a new project, I usually reflect on what has been consuming me, good or bad. I like to plan and write out every single detail that I want to incorporate into my work and workspace whether that be materials, mood boards, equipment, or the type of music I want to play. Everything I do is intentional. That way when it’s time to create, I have everything I need and my creative flow can actually flow.
